Volunteer Marine Rescue Queensland

The Volunteer Marine Rescue Association Queensland (VMRAQ) provides marine search and rescue services. VMR Burketown operates from Burketown, at the southern end of the Gulf of Carpentaria, some 20 nautical miles up the Albert River. They operate a 9M Stingray Rescue vessel with a range of approximately 400 nautical miles. Launch time is approximately 1 hour from Burketown.

  • VMR do not maintain a radio watch.
  • For assistance, VTS in partnership with other Squadrons maintain a 24-hour listening watch on VHF Channel 16.
  • If in phone range the Qld Police Service should be your first point of contact.
  • Masters should be advised that a fee applies to operations that are not of a life-threatening nature.
