It is 630kms by road to Mt Isa and 1035 kms west of Cairns.  Many of Doomadgee’s residents are Traditional Owners of the lands in this region.  The traditional homelands of The Gangalidda and the Waanyi people lie in and around the Doomadgee Shire.  There are also Garrawa and Yunjulla people and a range of people from Indigenous nations across Australia who have made Doomadgee their home.  

Under the Liquor Act 1992 Doomadgee is an Alcohol Restricted Area. It includes the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire including all public and private places. This includes both banks and the bed of the Nicholson River where it is next to the community area.  The restricted area does not include Old Doomadgee.  The Savannah Way and Doomadgee Roadhouse in Doomadgee are specified roads/facilities where a bona fide traveller exemption may be applicable for people travelling through the restricted area.  These penalties apply to all people living in, travelling through, visiting or working in the restricted area.  Please familiarise yourself with these restrictions before entering this area. 

• Doomadgee Roadhouse is open 7 days for accommodation, gas, air, diesel and ULP, car/4WD hire, takeaway, drinks, toilet facilities, ice groceries and fishing gear. There is an ATM. The roadhouse is located as you arrive into Doomadgee at Goodeedawa Road and the corner of the Savannah Hwy  

• Doomadgee Hospital and Community Health Centre located on Sharpe Street, Doomadgee is a level 2 remote hospital providing 24-hour acute inpatient and accident and emergency care  

• The well stocked ABIS Doomadgee Supermarket is CES operated by CES on Gunnalunja Drive provides an excellent range of fresh produce, groceries, meat, ATM and some household electrical and furniture items
